Hether returns with his signature lo-fi sound on beachy "Falling For The Feeling"
Just before heading out on the Osheaga and Lollapalooza stages this weekend, 29-year-old San Diegan Hether (Paul Castelluzzo) is on the precipice of a new full length project and teasing his first new music in two years.
Latest track "Falling For The Feeling" shows Hether at his absolute best; sun-drenched, pitched-up R&B paying homage to the distinct haze of 1960s jazz legends. As his own writer, producer, engineer, and sound mixer, it's a sonic world that's entirely his own, with the pluck of guitars echoing the earthy and psychedelic tones of generations past.
If you were to compile the collaborations Hether has lent his hand to, you'd have a veritable yellow phone book to flick through: Clairo, Remi Wolf, Paul McCartney, Anderson .Paak, Benny Blanco, Britney Spears, Justin Bieber, Kali Uchis, Kenny Beats, and Mac Miller, the list goes on. Particularly notable is his long-term partnership with Dominic Fike, having opened for Fike's US tour in 2023 and still playing alongside him this summer.
Before being known as the coolest man in music, Hether grew up playing bars with local jazz greats like Curtis Taylor. At the same time as driving for Lyft and serving as the music director for a Russian Pentecostal church to make ends meet, he was enlisted for Romeo Santos' album, Golden; an experience that gave him the oomph to return to San Diego and embark on his own solo music mission.
"I was in a stuffy garage for 3 years making new music," Hether shares on Instagram of his latest track. "Here's the tip of the iceberg." Now we're ready to see what lies under the water.
