es.cher and ultra caro’s vaporwave single “____, close to you.” traverses grit and euphoria

Dabbling with music since the ripe age of twelve, London based producer es.cher first found a fondness for the genres of shoegaze, slowcore, and math rock. Maintaining relative anonymity in the music scene, they've since developed a penchant for the surreal - from synth-pop to breakcore - on a mission to create “a personal diary anonymised through sound.”

As well as maintaining they're own unmistakeable yet elusive sound, es.cher has also previously contributed to records like Halsey’s The Great Impersonator and Skepta's 48 Hours. Now teaming up with an acclaimed signee to PC Music (or A.G. Cook's culture-fuelling label), the French-born ultra caro, the duo are here with "____, close to you."

Drums ricochet around fuzzed-out guitars on the multi-dimensional track, with vibrant sounds making for a lush and ethereal entry in equal measure. The distortion pulls you under, but the bright vocals and mid-tempo production drive the maximalist collage forward.

Framed by textural embellishments and raw lyrics, “____, close to you.” is an all-encompassing track that simultaneously builds up while breaking open.
