Rising R&B powerhouse Ebubé’s “Where I Wanna Be” is smooth and bittersweet
Ebubé's official debut single "Where I Wanna Be" is an exploration of the mental hardships that come with change
Everyone comes to a point in life when a fork in the road is reached, but not all of us are lucky to know which direction to take. The confusion can leave us longing for a spark, and in our search for answers, we can end up feeling like a stranger to ourselves. It’s an isolating feeling, but we’re never alone in it. Rising R&B artist Ebubé explores this state of mind in his emotional single, “Where I Wanna Be”.
Out via Lionbear Records, Ebubé’s vocals soar atop rhythmic guitars in this track. He vulnerably explores his own yearning for comfort, wondering how familiar things feel so different even if his surroundings haven’t changed. “Feeling stuck in a place in life is such a restricting feeling, where sometimes you don’t know where to direct your emotions. ‘Where I Wanna Be’ is a representation of that frustration, especially when you want to become better for someone else,” Ebubé explains.
His layered vocals soar as the song progresses, showcasing stellar production with a smooth, connected sound. With notes of soulful R&B and wistful contemporary pop, “Where I Wanna Be” is simultaneously tender and hopeful.
With the way the melody swells and spills all over the soundscape, this is an effortlessly catchy track. While this is Ebubé’s official debut single, he has already built a solid resume as an artist. A multi-instrumentalist as well as singer, he was classically-trained at Eton University. During the pandemic he made the switch from classical to R&B after experimenting with TikTok and became a part of the UK-based R&B group No Guidnce. Now forking off into a solo path, he’s ready to go where he wants to be.
