New York based four-piece rock band Earthquake Lights speak of the painful journey of accepting and overcoming loss in their emotional new single, “Heartbeat”

Four-piece rock band Earthquake Lights certainly know how to craft captivating anthems that encompass and behold all your senses and their latest single, “Heartbeat”, is demonstrative of just that. Tugging at your emotions, the track encapsulates the band entirely, as they prompt listeners to hold their loved ones close, as you never know what the future holds.

For Earthquake Lights specifically, they speak from personal experiences with the loss of a family member, as lead singer Myles Rodenhouse shares, “It’s about that moment before the end - when you know it will end but do not know when exactly.” Dedicating the song to the Mikel Sisters, “Heartbeat” is a beautiful and touching ode that everyone will be able to relate to in their own way.

Featuring a repetitive yet comforting piano melody that intertwines with intricate string detailing, the song gradually builds into an epic crescendo with the help of bold percussion. Forever straying from the norms, the New York based band deliver the rock ballad in a compelling and unique way, taking inspiration from Japanese classical composers, with Rodenhouse confiding, “Melody takes a lot of reflection for me. Being on my own allows me to find something more personal.”

With their 2023 album, Desert Bloom, being highly received the arrival of “Heartbeat” showcases a further elevation of their musicality, as well as their lyricism, where their raw and emotional storytelling ability cuts deep to the heart. Despite the painful and somber narrative of the track, Earthquake Lights have started 2024 off on a high note and perhaps the message they share will not only help with their own healing, but also for listeners alike.
