Chloé Caillet feels serenity from simplicity on house-disco cut “Change”

When Chloé Caillet is making music or DJing, she intentionally aims to communicate a feeling. On “Change”, her most recent team-up with “brother separated at birth” Alessi, that feeling invigorates the freedom and euphoria she’s found over years spent on the dance floor.

The single, released under Ninja Tune, continues to pull from Caillet’s palette inspired by 90’s rave culture and her lived-in experiences. Her superpower is found within the collective energy from the world and her surroundings. For that reason, she is “never making music alone.”

“Change” became an embodiment of the collective energy that defines her personal approach to creating dance music. Coming together when Caillet and Alessi met up after a troublesome four months of touring, it became the first song she intentionally poured the weight of her emotions into. “When I hear [“Change”] back, I hear the emotions in it, but I also hear the sense of wanting to come together and feel that collective energy,” she explains.

Despite emerging from a trying time, the combination house/disco track finds its roots in the simplicity of presence and letting go – especially through dancing. “I like to simplify my experiences as just living in the moment and honestly when I dance, I do feel like I'm making a positive change, at least for myself. Even though what I just said is so simple, it can be overlooked in so many ways.”

For Caillet, the dancefloor became a space that celebrates a sense of liberation and connection, and “Change” aims to instill that in a time that feels isolating and fragmented. “Embodying what you're feeling and dancing really makes such a big difference in the way you even experience a night out,” she says. “After a night where I've gone out and danced with my friends, I wake up feeling like I've actually done something really positive to my body and my mind.”

Relishing these feelings entranced Caillet into creating dance music in the first place. From being born in Paris to growing up in New York, the rising electronic maestro initially kickstarted her career playing in rock bands, later picking up DJing on the side. The urge to create dance music became unfathomable as she continued down her non-linear path as a mixmaster.

“[With] my experience as a raver and understanding what dance music made me feel, I understood the music that I wanted to make,” Caillet expresses. “I wanted to make music that I would want to hear on the dance floor and that I would feel something to.” Caillet learns from all who cross her path; whether it’s from B2B sets or her personal arsenal of influential guides, including Alessi and electronic allies Josh Ludlow and Dixon. Streamlining her background in rock music with her approach to dance, she continues to create dance music in a style that is distinctly her own.

Now, Chloé Caillet resides between Miami and Ibiza; where, in-between tour dates, she is gearing up for the release of Dance Again. Motivated by an unbounded excitement and the ability to immerse herself into a multitude of creative pockets, she steps into an era that commits to being in every moment. On “Change” and the remainder of her forthcoming EP, Caillet is inviting listeners into the headspace that kicked off her initial allure to dance music.
