ARIŌN works through a break-up on cathartic return “WYWFM”
Returning with their first new music in three years and with a wealth of new experiences to draw from, ARIŌN’s “WYWFM” is a vitriolic rush of self-empowerment.
When the pandemic set in, ARIŌN discovered they had more time to focus on the elements of their creativity that really felt important to them. Formerly releasing music as Aaron Porter, their polished pop sound wrestled with the iconic imagery they shared online.
As nightlife returned, ARIŌN re-established their home dancing on stages across London’s queer clubs and spending their summers out in Ibiza. Taking cues from these experiences, they formed a new sonic base, and with it a new identity.
On “WYWFM” they taunt an ex-lover, working through a break-up and coming out stronger at the other side. Speaking about the track, ARIŌN says, “WYWFM is essentially a break-up song. It’s about a break-up that’s completely over, but still leaves you wondering what the fuck happened. I think in writing this song, I finally let go.”
The track throbs with empowerment and style. Produced by newcomer XJB, its bassline thumps while samples glitch and swoop at an electrifying pace, ARIŌN’s vocals pinning then pouncing over the rush.
While they may have taken a break from releasing, their performances have only been growing. Earlier this summer they tested out new material playing the main stage of Pride in London at Trafalgar Square and the Royal Albert Hall, opening for Hayley Kiyoko.
