Amazonica steps into her own with darkly hypnotic new single “Mirror Baby”
Amazonica’s new single “Mirror Baby” is a smoldering slice of dark alt-pop.
Driven by a shadowy groove, it’s a song about duality, touching on both the softness and strength, the longing and distance, all delivered with a confidence born of experience. Long before this chapter, she was carving out a reputation in the punk world and becoming a cult name on the international DJ circuit, but here she steps into her own light, unfiltered and self-possessed.
“Mirror Baby” starts off slow and understated. Amazonica calls her new direction “pop music for the apocalypse,” and the new, intoxicating single captures that tension perfectly. With haunting melodies and a cinematic edge, “Mirror Baby” carries an eerie, sexy feel that oozes confidence.
The track sets the stage for her upcoming debut album Victory, a record more than a decade in the making, pieced together in her London flat and shaped by faith, resilience, and the art of beginning again. As she frames it, the project is about “winning the war with yourself as well as everyone else”, a manifesto born from sobriety, Buddhism, and the determination to reclaim her story.
For an artist first signed at 14, who released two albums under the name Dirty Harry before reclaiming her masters during lockdown, Victory is both culmination and rebirth. “Mirror Baby” sees Amazonica make her intentions clear as she writes her future in her own voice.
