Tropics – Electrowerkz, London 11/03/15
Tropics played a headline show to a packed-out crowd at Islington’s Electrowerkz last night.
Taking a break from supporting Glass Animals on their current UK tour, Tropics main man, Chris Ward, played a stripped-back, atmospheric set against a stunning light show that featured plenty of strobe lighting to set the mood.
Ward played a set that focused heavily on new material from his recently released second album Rapture. Tracks such as the lead single and title track, along with “Blame” and “Gloria” filled every crevice of the room and warmed the crowd with a sultry, soulful sound that shows just how Ward has progressed since his first effort.
Yet, it was closing song “Hunger” that dazzled most, leaving a warmth in the chest like the afterglow of whiskey. The new songs skillfully found their footing in the live setting, and really built upon the intimacy and feeling that runs through the record.
