Katie Stelmanis – The Lexington, London, 15/06/09
Photos and words by Anika Mottershaw
Katie Stelmanis is not one of a particularly great height. Often raising onto her tippy toes as she sings into her mic, she is joined by friend Maya Postepski on the drums tonight at North London’s Lexington pub. The duo look fairly unassuming, as if they would perhaps play some cutesy, easily digestible indie pop. But don’t let that fool you! From the moment Katie opens her mouth and sings it’s clear she’s not your average run-of-the-mill Canadian songstress. Her voice is EPIC. The jaunty piano and Maya’s playful drum parts work brilliantly together and songs like ‘Believe Me’ (to be released as a single on Vice/Loog) are warmly received by the crowd.
Katie has several dates all across our fair shores over the coming month, definately one to watch out for.
