Fickle Friends took us on a tropical escape to Shepherd's Bush
In amongst the palm trees that litter the stage at the O2 Shepherd's Bush, an indie pop paradise is blooming. Fickle Friends, a band renowned for their uplifting, summery vibes, are its gatekeepers.
The atmosphere that vibrated through the venue during jubilant support slots from Island Club and Marsicans is about to truly come alive. Emerging under the glow of a pink neon light, lead singer Nat is welcomed with gleeful cheers and the raising of several inflatable palm trees scattered across the standing pit. “Are you ready to party?” Nat exclaims as her boundless energy is ignited - an energy that lasts throughout the hour long set.
Showcasing material from their Top 10 album You Are Someone Else, and the EP’s that came before it, the band also throw in newly-released track "The Moment" for good measure. Its poppy, savvy sound combined with the sultry red stage lighting makes the track irresistible. The party continues as they shimmy and shake maracas to "Cry Baby", which fades beautifully into "Paris" the only slow tempo, non-physical number of the evening.
The band’s gratitude for the crowd that fills the venue is evident not only in their joyful smiles, but also in the way they address the audience. As they thank the bearer of a 'straight to the point' banner reading 'Fickle Friends: best band', their modesty and slight bewilderment for this form of admiration is shown in full colour.
With their heartwarming charm, Fickle Friends turn a mundane October night in London into their very own tropical utopia.
