We recently tagged along with rising indie-folk duo Demons of Ruby Mae for their debut show in the capital. The Leicester multi-instrumentalists played an energetic, but tight seven-track set to a full upstairs at Shoreditch’s Old Blue Last, including forthcoming single ‘Summer Night’, a possible contender for best track of the night, along with ‘The Boy Who Cried Wolf’, the latter a dramatic, but moving vocal-led piece, underpinned by delicate, stripped back piano. While the two-piece easily switch between guitars, keyboards and drums from song to song, Johnny Gavin’s voice is possibly the stand-out instrument of the performance, delivering unwavering, but vulnerable bursts of emotion, particularly on ‘Volcanic Mouth’ - which finished off the evening. Current single ‘Beneath The Surface’, saw its video release this week; you can listen to the track here, and new track ‘Summer Night’ is set for release this winter.
