Wuh Oh, Teenage Fanclub, Belle & Sebastian members team up for debut Ferguson Hi-Fi single

Pete Ferguson of Wuh Oh has launched a new Glasgow band, Ferguson Hi-Fi, with debut single “Get Over It” out now via Movie Records. The track features Stevie Jackson of Belle & Sebastian and Dave McGowan of Teenage Fanclub.

Led by Ferguson – formerly of Wuh Oh – the four-piece doesn't actually include Jackson or McGowan as full-time members. Instead, Darren McCaughey, Rachel Wilson, and Shaun Hood round out the lineup. Nevertheless, “Get Over It” came together ahead of a studio session with Jackson, McGowan, and Ferguson’s brother Mike. “I got out of bed in the middle of the night, picked up the guitar and thrashed out what would become Get Over It in one go,” Ferguson said.

He added: “I brought it to my ad hoc Glasgow supergroup and it instantly came alive. I knew straight away we had the first Ferguson Hi-Fi single.”

The single arrives after a difficult stretch for Ferguson, who left a major label deal before Covid and has said he later stopped drinking and returned to Glasgow. “The vibe I got was bitter rumination but also a sort of burgeoning excitement for being free of the whole thing,” he said. “Even though I’m saying I can’t get over it, I’m also saying thank God it’s over.”

His previous work with Belle & Sebastian includes writing and producing “I Don’t Know What You See In Me” from Late Developers. As Wuh Oh, he also wrote for Sophie Ellis-Bextor, D.O.D., and Hannah Laing.

Ferguson Hi-Fi have already played early shows in Glasgow, including a support slot with Sharp Pins, and will appear at Tenement Trail on 10 October. Ahead of the single, Ferguson shared Fergusongs Vol. 1 on Bandcamp, a cassette-only collection of demos recorded on a dictaphone.
