Wolfgang Tillmans and Halo Maud to appear on new Lucie Antunes record Silence
Lucie Antunes has detailed her third album, Silence, which arrives alongside a large-scale choreographed stage work created with contemporary dance figure Mathilde Monnier and a host of collaborations.
The record follows Antunes’ last records Sergeï (2019) and Carnaval (2023) but Silence, sees the French musician and percussionist strips back her usual arrangements, working from a libretto by poet Laura Vazquez to reach what she describes as a more “essential, instinctive form”. The album’s opening piece, also titled “Silence”, originated from an unexpected drone recorded in the stables of the CENTQUATRE in Paris and is the first single released today.
Antunes, trained in classical and contemporary music, has built a practice that moves between acoustic and electronic forms, club contexts and interdisciplinary projects. With Silence, she enters into dialogue with Monnier, a choreographer and former director of the Centre National de la Danse in Paris, who has created over fifty works for stages including the Festival d’Avignon and Théâtre de la Ville.
Conceived as both an album and a live production, Silence brings together seven dancers, four musicians, and a circular stage setup. The work is co-produced by Canblaster, and features contributions from Louisahhh, Clara Ysé, Wolfgang Tillmans, Halo Maud, Narumi Herisson, and performer Rebecca Chaillon.
A release performance takes place at the Grand Palais in Paris on 10 June, before the work begins an international touring run that includes the Festival d’Avignon and Festival d’Automne.
