Whitmer Thomas signs to Fire Talk Records and shares new single “Candy Corn”

Whitmer Thomas has signed to Fire Talk Records and marked the deal with the release of a new single and video, “Candy Corn”. The track, produced by Brad Cook in North Carolina, arrives as the comedian, actor and musician’s first new music since 2025’s Tilt EP, and it doubles down on the sincerity that has always sat just beneath the lols.

Between screen roles in Weapons, Friendship, and Big Mouth, collaborations with Christian Lee Hutson, Jay Som, and Great Grandpa’s Al Menne, plus a self-directed HBO comedy special, Thomas has built a reputation for work that's at its best when his skills interlock. “Candy Corn” leans into that overlap, pairing a lo-fi arrangement with lyrics that turn a sharp, self-deprecating eye on the distance between teenage recklessness and adult perspective.

“This is my broadest attempt to write about what youth felt like, looking back as an aging knucklehead,” Thomas says of the song. That sentiment plays out in lines delivered over sparse drum programming and delicate guitar: “Flailing fists in the mosh pit / The future swings and splits your lip / Thirty seemed elderly / Oh, the agony of aging.”

The accompanying video, directed by Thomas, was shot around New York City landmarks and features appearances from his long-time friends and fellow comics Joe Pera and Carmen Christopher. Brad Cook was involved as producer, following his work with Waxahatchee, Snocaps, and Courtney Barnett over the past few years.

The move to Fire Talk - the beloved indie label home to acts such as PACKS, Why Bonnie, and BNNY - signals a fresh chapter for Thomas, who has often released music in the gaps between film and TV projects.
