Watch Stewart Lee and Black Country, New Road in conversation at End of the Road Festival

The deadpan British comic – who had performed at the festival earlier that weekend– began by asking the pair about their reinvention and scrapping ideas in the interest of democratic songwriting before quizzing Evans – who plays sax and flute for the sextet – why he no longer sings.

“You’re the fan favourite, Lewis,” Lee insisted, adding in jest, “All the little kids love you.” Lewis shot back: “I didn’t think I’d be getting roasted onstage by Stewart Lee.” Watch the whole thing below!

The chat was part of a series of unannounced sessions, collaborations and interviews at last year's festival, which also saw pop-up sets from The Orchestra (For Now),Throwing Muses, Truman Sinclair, Squid, Tyler Ballgame, Jake Xerxes Fussell, The Sophs, Ellie O'Neill, Man/Woman/Chainsaw, jasmine.4.t, and Lily Seabird.

Best Fit's secret sessions have become a key part of End of the Road each year, bringing together artists from across the line-up in a series of short sets, exclusive covers, collaborations, and live interviews and Q&As. Past guests have included Lucy Dacus, St Vincent, Wilco's Jeff Tweedy, Moses Sumney, Laura Marling, Patti Smith, and Frightened Rabbit - who played a now iconic version of "The Modern Leper".
