underscores announces new album, U
underscores has revealed the details of her upcoming third album, U.
underscores has shared a selection of singles lifted from U in the lead-up to the announcement, including "Music", "Do It", and "Tell Me (U Want It)", which was premiered as Hottest Record In The World on BBC Radio 1 on Wednesday (25 February) night. The track, which is accompanied by a music video directed and produced by underscores, is what she describes as “Music for my iPhone spy movie", expanding upon the maximalist pop sound of her upcoming record.
Following her 2023 album Wallsocket, U sees underscores pool together her creative eras, ranging from dubstep to future bass, drawing inspiration from the feeling of transience and liminal spaces, with the songs being written across multiple locations around the world, including hotel rooms, studios, aeroplanes, and vehicles. “Music for malls, airports, hotels, supermarkets. I wrote these songs for U," she says of the album.
