ugly ozo announce new EP, dive
Isle of Wight indie outfit ugly ozo have announced their second EP, dive, and shared new single "overkill".
ugly ozo, formed by singer Jessica Baker, her sister and bassist Boo Baker, and drummer Tristan Northard, made their debut with their EP stargirl released late last year. dive marks a new chapter for the band as they explore the female experience from an unfiltered perspective, with "overkill" offering the latest glimpse into the work, following previous single "hi, how are you?" which dropped last month.
Discussing the track, Baker explains: “‘overkill’ tells the story of loving someone who you know, deep down, doesn’t meet your standards and doesn’t treat you right-but staying anyway. Not for romance or hope, butout of loneliness, laziness, fear, and the comfort of routine. It’s the truth no one wants to admit: sometimes we clingto the wrong person because being alone feels scarier than being unhappy.”
dive was written and recorded at REX Studios, a creative hub which has hosted artists including Caroline Polachek, Confidence Man, and Daniel Avery. The album is set to arrive just as ugly ozo will play a run of UK shows and make festival appearances at Gold Sounds Festival, The Great Escape, and Dot to Dot.
