UCHE YARA reveals plans for debut album, BODYSCANNER
Austrian-born, Berlin-based multi-instrumentalist UCHE YARA has announced her first album, BODYSCANNER, and released the title track.
BODYSCANNER follows UCHE YARA's 2024 EPs GOLD DAYS and honey, with title track "BODYSCANNER" arriving as the lead single. The track is the product of a spontaneous session in her Berlin studio two years ago, during which she worked with longtime collaborator Alex The Flipper to combine fragments of demos, live drumming and samples to form the instrumental in twenty minutes.
Speaking about the single, UCHE YARA says, "What I love most about the track is its ambiguity – are you at an airport or in a club? The song guides you through spaces and pulls you into an entirely new world. It was also the first time I stepped into this kind of character and chose not to sing in the main vocal. There’s a constant tension between surrender and control, between being controlled and taking control yourself. The track thrives on that duality: dominant and threatening, yet warm and deeply groovy at the same time. It’s something you can ride, and willingly give yourself over to."
BODYSCANNER was written and produced entirely by UCHE YARA, allowing her to fully explore embodiment, self-perception, and belonging, as she explains, "I've written the album with my body, and now my mind knows it."
The album is formed as a club record that favours presence over performance after UCHE YARA experienced a disconnect with the club culture she encountered in Berlin. “My approach moves away from the digital, hyper-stimulated, show-off realm that chases one dopamine hit and one drop after another at high speed,” she explains. “I'm much more interested in connection rather than consumption.”
