Tyler Ballgame brings godly voice and Bowie reverence to Best Fit secret session
Rough Trade-signed rising star Tyler Ballgame opened Best Fit's second day of secret sessions at the End of the Road Festival, performing recent singles and a cover of “Life in Mars” to a rapt crowd.
“Your attention is very beautiful,” the Berklee College of Music alum said, a sentiment many US artists have shared at End of the Road this year. Backed only by a pianist, the Rhode Island singer delivered three of his own arresting tracks in the pouring rain before he introduced a cover of “Life on Mars” by David Bowie as one of his favourite songs ever written.
Ballgame signed to the legendary UK label Rough Trade earlier this year after bonding with them over Nick Drake and Arthur Russell. He has suggested that new music is imminent, and plays a short UK tour early next month.
End of the Road Festival continues today with headline sets from Self Esteem, DIIV, and Viagra Boys.
