Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers 1982 album, Long After Dark, to be reissued with bonus tracks
A deluxe reissue of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers’ 1982 album, Long After Dark, has been announced for release later this year.
Alongside the original tracklisting, there are 12 bonus songs and more than half of those have never been released. Accompanying the announcement is a 1982 version of "Straight Into Darkness", which was originally recorded for French TV by the director Alan Bibby.
Alongside liner notes from David Fricke, with commentary from Jimmy Iovine and Cameron Crowe, there are some words from Petty himself about the previously unreleased songs.
“There was some music recorded for Long After Dark that didn’t get on the record, that I thought would’ve made it a better album,” he says. “I left off… four things that I liked quite a bit. And probably a few more written that never even got in the door.”
