This Is Lorelei to make Matador debut with new album, The Singer in My Band
This Is Lorelei — the solo project of singer-songwriter Nate Amos — has detailed his upcoming album, The Singer in My Band, and unveiled lead single, "Billy Came Back".
The Singer in My Band follows This Is Lorelei's 2024 album Box for Buddy, Box for Star, which was expanded with two deluxe editions featuring covers by MJ Lenderman, Snail Mail, Jeff Tweedy, and more, and his 2025 album Holo Boy as a compilation of songs from his extensive catalogue. The album will be his first release since signing to Matador, with "Billy Came Back" being the first taster of the upcoming collection of songs.
"'Billy Came Back' stewed for months before I picked up a guitar to work it out," says Amos of the track. "I kept forgetting about it but it always came back. Finishing the song was the only way to get it to leave me alone."
Amos engineered, produced and performed everything on The Singer in My Band, with banjo contributions from his father, bluegrass musician Bob Amos, and vocals from his sister Sarah Amos and partner Al Nardo. "They're three people who had a fundamental impact on what this album was to begin with," he explains.
The album was written while Amos was on the road, having done an extensive run of shows as part of Water From Your Eyes. “It’s funny, I sent my dad the album after I finished it, and he said it was kind of an 'on the road beatnik' album and that reframed it for me,” he says. “It really is like a collection of chaotic experiences that you have while travelling. They’re also very much little works of fiction with elements of truth to them.”
Following the release of The Singer in my Band, This Is Lorelei will tour the UK and Ireland in November with a run of headline shows, which will include stops in Bristol, Leeds, Glasgow, London, and more.
