The Morning After: Ms Mr at Birthdays in London
Last night, New York-based duo Ms Mr played to a lively crowd at Birthdays in Dalston. They played a substantial set of nine songs, an admittedly impressive amount considering they’re such a relatively young act. ‘Bones’ and ‘Hurricane,’ their most well-known tracks were the standouts, as well as a lovely cover of Patrick Wolf’s ‘Time of my Life.’ They also showcased some newer material, which was promising and consistent with what’s becoming an identifiable Ms Mr sound.
Ms Mr proved not only that they’re capable of delivering a visually arresting live performance, but also they reminded us of what’s still cool. We learned that in the wake of the disintegration of Girls, gender-bending band names are still cool. My Little Pony-colored hair? Still cool. Birthdays in Dalston? Cool enough. Ms Mr certainly aren’t re-writing the book on hip, but they’re certainly contributing an original, interesting chapter.
