Tamaryn sweat their hearts out at The Lexington

Having returned with the follow up to 2010′s The Wave in this year’s Mexican Summer released full-length Tender New Signs, shoegaze indebted San Franciscan duo Tamaryn rounded off the UK portion of their latest tour with a sweltering show at The Lexington last night, with Bird and Man Without Country in support.
Performing as a four-piece, the band’s woozy theatrics are still very much centred around the vocals of New Zealand born Tamaryn, whose low sultry coos swirl amongst dreamy synths – bolstering their ever thickening haze – and to an even greater extent the intricate, expansive twanging guitars of San Francisco native Rex John Shelverton, who really brings songs like ‘Heavenly Bodies’ and ‘Love Fade’ to life.
There are echoes of Beach House, Still Corners and even the Cocteau Twins in there but ultimately , they sound just like Mexican Summer band should: hypnotic, a little bit psychedelic, a little bit grungy and utterly romantic.
