Last night in Glasgow’s newest venue, Broadcast, Stockholm’s young noiseniks Holograms gave a disappointingly small – yet passionate – crowd, some KORG-induced earache with a run through of some of the tracks from their self-titled debut, released earlier in the year.
Ably supported by local garage-glammers Baby Strange and raucous Leeds bunch Eagulls, the fresh-faced Swedish lads of Holograms battered their way through the likes of ‘Chasing My Mind’, ‘Stress’ and ‘ABC City’ like their lives depended on it. They’re very much a band influenced by post-punk, most clearly by Wire and Joy Division, but the addition of Filip Spetze’s synth noise moves the band towards something just that little bit brighter than the nihilism of near-neighbours Iceage.
Sure, you can chant “dance, dance, dance, dance, dance to the radio!” over most of the tracks from last night, but that didn’t stop the show from being an extremely fun – and incredibly noisy – experience.
