The Japanese House shares new single "Sunshine Baby"

18 May 2023, 11:35 | Written by Tyler Damara Kelly

"Sunshine Baby" is The Japanese House's third offering from her forthcoming second studio album In the End It Always Does.

Co-produced by The Japanese House’s Amber Bain with The 1975’s George Daniel and Chloe Kraemer, and featuring vocals from The 1975’s Matty Healy, "Sunshine Baby" is about the nostalgic acceptance of the transience and ending of relationships. The release comes accompanied by an atmospheric alternative video of the track directed by Sheila Johansson.

Bain explains: “"Sunshine Baby" is my nickname for my dog, and my ex and I alway used to lay on the beach together being sunshine babies. The chorus is kind of a submission to the end of our relationship, but singing it in a positive light. There's a transience in every part of a relationship, and in the circle of everything it comes back around."

Featuring the singles "Sad To Breathe" and "Boyhood", In the End It Always Does, is The Japanese House's second album, following 2019's No Good at Falling.

The Japanese House also announces a headline tour of the UK in October. Fans can preorder In the End It Always Does for exclusive pre-sale access. General sale takes place on 19 May. She also supports The 1975 at their sold out Finsbury Park show on 2 July.

"Sunshine Baby" is out now. The Japanese House's forthcoming second album, In the End It Always Does, is out on 30 June via Dirty Hit and is available to pre-order.
