The Buoys announce Concrete Cowboy LP, share lead single “Welcome To My Brain”

Sydney indie rock four-piece The Buoys have detailed their second album, Concrete Cowboy, alongside the release of its lead single “Welcome To My Brain”. The news comes ahead of their upcoming Newcastle show supporting Foo Fighters.

Produced by Chris Collins (Royel Otis, Gang of Youths) and shaped by co-writes with Alistair Hayes, Fletcher Matthews, Konstantin Kerstin, and Dylan Ollivierre, the record narrows the exploratory streak of 2023’s debut Lustre into something sharper and more unified. Concrete Cowboy leans into the taut indie rock and introspective storytelling that have become the band’s calling card. They cite touchpoints as far apart as Nile Rodgers, The 1975, HAIM, and The Beths.

In a collective statement, the group described the spark behind the LP. “We were in the studio together when the phrase came to us: too many tabs open. That became the heartbeat of the record. Concrete Cowboy is about trying to keep pace with a world that never slows down, and what you find when you finally stop.”

Expanding on the record’s atmosphere, the band added: “We wanted to build a world around that feeling, one that lives in a surrealist dream state where those lines don’t just blur, they dissolve. We hope listeners find themselves inside it, so they can have a dance when it all feels a little too much.”

The announcement lands as The Buoys were confirmed as main support for Foo Fighters at Newcastle’s McDonald Jones Stadium on 12 November. The quartet of vocalist-guitarist Zoe Catterall, drummer Tess Wilkin, bassist Courtney Cunningham and guitarist Hilary Geddes will also mount their own headline Australian run this autumn. The tour kicks off at Sydney’s Crowbar on release day and hits Brisbane, Adelaide, Melbourne and Perth before the stadium date closes the cycle.
