
SZA reveals she considered signing with Odd Future instead of Top Dawg Entertainment
SZA has revealed that she did want to sign with Odd Future instead of Top Dawg Entertainment, but chose TDE because the label president Terrence "Punch" Henderson "believed in me."
In a new feature for the New York Times, SZA spoke about choosing to sign to TDE in 2013, and how she was had another label in mind at the same time.
SZA, who signed to TDE (Jay Rock, Isaiah Rashad, ScHoolboy Q, SiR, Ab-Soul, Doechii) in 2013 and became the label's first female artist, said, "Quiet as it’s kept, I wanted to be with, like, Odd Future. I felt more like a Clancy [Christian Clancy, Odd Future manager] girl."
She added that she ended up choosing TDE because the label president Punch "believed in me."
