
Idris Elba, Tems, Deepak Chopra lead SXSW London lineup
SXSW London has revealed the first wave of headline speakers and music partners for its European debut in the UK capital this year, with showcases from the likes Best Fit, alongside Trench, Clash, Crack and Billboard.
The event will comprise a conference, which promises to present "daring ideas and future thinking at the intersection of tech, creativity, arts and business", alongside forward-thinking music and screen programmes. Each curated music showcase will involved cutting-edge pioneers who are embedded in different scenes with each venue becoming a gateway into a different new music movement.
Joining Idris Elba, Deepack Chopra and Tems are the likes of electronic music pioneerJean-Michel Jarre, comedian Kathrine Ryan, and producer Wyclef Jean.
As the first music headliner, Grammy Award-winning singer Tems will play a show on 5 June at the Troxy. SXSW London will also host industry meetups, networking and future-forward debate across its Shoreditch venues.
As part of festival's screen programme will be the first UK film retrospective of Grammy Award-winning artist and filmmaker Jenn Nkiru, including the London premiere of her latest work The Great North.
Announcing the headline speakers, Max Alexander, CEO of SXSW London said: “The names we’re announcing today embody the groundbreaking ideas, creative energy, and collaborative ethos that SXSW London will bring to Europe for the first time. From redefining industries to spotlighting cutting-edge music scenes, this is just the beginning of what promises to be an unforgettable celebration of global creativity.”
SXSW London runs from 2-7 June 2-7 over dozens of venues, galleries, clubs and spaces around Shoreditch in east London, including many independent and community-led spaces. The festival is anticipated to generate over £75M in direct economic benefits for London and the UK.
