studio20 sign to Communion and release debut single, "Penny Drop"
Kent alt-rock quartet studio20 have announced their signing to Communion and shared their first single, "Penny Drop".
"Penny Drop" follows last month's release of a live performance captured at Metalcraft, and serves as an introduction to their midwestern-emo inspired sound. On the track, members Kate and Isaac share vocals, chronicling the realisation of when a person is gone for good.
Speaking about the track, Isaac explains: “The song was conceived in winter 2025. I would try and write a minute's worth of new music every day - I was not in the best headspace. It was very cold. That demo hung around for ages. There was something uneasy about it."
“The chorus lyrics came about from a gut feeling, more focused on the sounds than the words," Isaac continues. "At that point I felt like the vocal performance embodied the sentiment more than the lyrics themselves. The band unravelled my stream of consciousness and we discovered the meaning - the Penny Drop feeling when you realise something isn’t what it used to be. Even the ending we left painfully unresolved to tease the listener.”
Following their official debut, studio20 are looking ahead at a run of autumn live dates, including appearances at Left of The Dial in Rotterdam and support slots with Robber Robber on select EU and UK dates throughout November.
