Steve Lacy returns with first new song in three years ahead of new album Oh, Yeah?
Steve Lacy has ended a three-year gap between releases with self-produced new track "Nice Shoes."
Being the first release since his previous record Gemini Rights in 2022, "Nice Shoes" arrives as he continues work on his next album, Oh Yeah?.
The track’s arrival follows Lacy’s September 2025 Rolling Stone cover story, where he discussed the making of Oh Yeah? Lacy said the project reflects a change in direction, with him being more deliberate than ever in his lyric writing. On “Nice Shoes,” that shift comes through in its conversational delivery.
He recalled that when he first began producing with The Internet, his focus was on the music rather than the lyrics: “I’d make the beat, make a hook, and just give it away. Words were always secondary. If the beat was hard, the bass line was hard, and the chords were hard, what else did we need? But now I’m like, ‘OK, I want to say things the way I would actually say them.’”
“Nice Shoes” is out now via RCA Records
