Steve Lacy releases "is it cool?" featuring SZA ahead of new album Oh yeah?
Steve Lacy has shared a new single, “is it cool?”, a collaboration with SZA, and confirmed the full tracklisting for his upcoming third album Oh yeah?, which arrives this summer.
The record, due 17 July via RCA Records, marks Lacy’s first full-length release since 2022’s Gemini Rights. Its latest offering follows lead single “the feeling” and features additional guest appearances from Erykah Badu and Cecile Believe, alongside the SZA collab.
The collaboration between Lacy and SZA had been anticipated since the pair confirmed studio sessions back in March. The track revolves around themes of self-sabotage and turbulent relationships.
Oh yeah? is described in press materials as the culmination of a four-year period during which Lacy found himself feeling more at home abroad than in his own surroundings. The record also features co-writes with Badu on “pure colour” and Cecile Believe on “lovesexdrugbomb”.
The album’s tracklist reveals ten songs as follows.
oh yeah?
is it cool? (feat. SZA)
the feeling
pure colour (feat. Erykah Badu)
show you me
doom
nothing
lovesexdrugbomb (feat. Cecile Believe)
nice shoes / in your world
bebe
Lacy has framed the record as a meeting point for guitar enthusiasts and synth fans alike, with a sonic palette that draws from pop, alt, and R&B without settling neatly into any one category.
At 28, Lacy has already accumulated two Grammy Awards and two tracks with over a billion streams on Spotify. He has toured extensively, performed alongside Kendrick Lamar and Solange, and developed a reputation as a style figure.
The new single and album announcement come alongside a run of Asian tour dates this summer, including headlining slots at Summer Sonic in Tokyo and Osaka, as well as Lalala Festival in Manila and Jakarta. Lacy will also play a standalone show at Toyosu PIT in Tokyo on 13 August.
