Sprints and Maruja to perform at The 100 Club for Punk Special 50th anniversary

The 100 Club Punk Special first took place between 20-21 September in 1976, and was made up of largely unsigned bands at the time. The shows featured bands including Sex Pistols, The Clash, Siouxsie and the Banshees, The Damned, Buzzcocks Subway Sect, Chris Spedding & The Vibrators and Stinky Toys from Paris all hosted at the London venue, with the likes of Vivienne Westwood, Paul Weller, and more in attendance.

Now, marking the occasion, Irish punk outfit Sprints will be headlining on 20 September, to be followed by experimental punk band Maruja on 21 September. Both bands will be joined by special guests that are yet to be announced, and tickets are priced at £1.50 — the exact price that they went for in 1976. Tickets for Sprints and Maruja will be available to purchase from 2PM BST on Friday, 4 September.

“In my personal opinion, Punk is THE most important genre and subculture that the UK, or anyone else has ever produced or invented," says 100 Club owner Jeff Horton. "And its longevity is testament to that. The list of good it’s done is endless. When you consider the background of despair, racism, poverty and sexism it grew from, its carried the flag for and supported people that need it continuously."

"And that is why we have chosen the line up we have, on 20th and 21st September 2026 to celebrate 50 years of this incredible subculture and genre," he continues. "Call it what you like, its distinct values, style, incredible music, fashion and ethos set it apart from mainstream culture. And these bands perfectly reflect what Punk means in 2026.”
