Spotify rolls out AI-powered DJ feature in the US and Canada
Spotify has launched a beta version of its new DJ feature in the US and Canada which uses AI technology to create a personalised music selection and AI-powered commentary about the tracks and artists.
The new DJ feature is available to premium Spotify users in the US and Canada, and utilises OpenAI - the company behind ChatGPT - to give people a personalised mix of music lifted from users' recent listening habits and old favourites, as well as "commentary around the tracks and artists we think you’ll like in a stunningly realistic voice."
If the listener doesn't like the music DJ has selected, there's a DJ button that will prompt the feature to switch up the mood, and the AI-powered DJ is expected to get better at its recommendations the "more you listen and tell the DJ what you like (and don’t like!)."
The AI DJ voice is modelled on Spotify's Head of Cultural Partnerships, Xavier "X" Jernigan, who was a host on Spotify’s first morning show, The Get Up.
