Spike announces self-titled debut album and shares new single, "Disappear"
Spike, the synth-pop project of London musician and composer Hannah McLoughlin, has announced her debut album, Spike, and unveiled lead single, "Disappear".
Spike first released her debut EP S/T on Gob Nation last February, described as a collection of songs that builds on the "tradition of British synth-pop". Showcasing the songcraft at the heart of the upcoming album, Spike shares new single "Disappear", alongside a video directed by filmmaker and visual artist Matilda Butler.
Speaking about the song, McLoughlin shares, "Disappear started with a driving synth riff and a relentless bass line. I wanted the lyrics to match that same urgency. I kept imagining a character like Lady Macbeth, or a devout cult member—someone in the throes of obsession, experiencing biblical visions that feel both awe-inspiring and terrifying. I wanted the songs driving energy to keep escalating, which led me to the climactic modulation for the final chorus.
Spike will be the first full-length album released on Gob Nation, which platforms acts from the UK underground scene. Following an album launch show at London's The George Tavern on 5 September, Spike is set to tour alongside labelmates The Tubs for a run of UK shows, which will include stops in Leeds, Nottingham, Brighton, and more.
