Sparklehorse shares the posthumous cover of Robyn Hitchcock's "Listening To The Higsons"
The cover features on the forthcoming posthumous album from Sparklehorse.
Mark Linkous of Sparklehorse first heard the Robyn Hitchcock song "Listening to the Higsons" as a single in the early 80’s. He listened to it a lot during that time, and it was still a favourite when he recorded this hard-hitting version with Steve Albini at Electrical Audio in 2009.
Over the course of four Sparklehorse records and two collaborative projects, Mark Linkous had built a reputation as one of alternative music's most distinctive songwriters. As he continued to work on his fifth album in late 2009 and early 2010, when he was recording with Steve Albini in Chicago and in front of his beloved 1968 Flickinger mixing console at his Static King studio, the depression which had shadowed him for many years began to deepen. On 6 March 2010 he took his own life at the age of 47.
The cover of Robyn Hitchcock's "Listening To The Higsons" follows "The Scull of Lucia", and "Evening Star Supercharger" which coincided with the album's announcement.
Sparklehorse's posthumous album, Bird Machine, arrives on 8 September via ANTI- and is available to pre-order now.
