Sofia Cordoba announces debut EP, North Star

North Star follows a string of Spanish-language releases from Cordoba since 2023, with "Blisters" arriving as the second preview of the EP, following "Symptom of Love" which dropped last month.

The track was written after attending a five-year school reunion, as Cordoba shares, “Those things always stir up a lot of emotions — nostalgia, fear and acceptance of change. It’s one of the few songs I’ve written that just poured out as a sort of stream of consciousness. It felt like a relief to be able to release all these contrasting feelings, all tainted by uncertainty, into a song that I’m very proud of.”

Growing up in Columbia played a significant role in Cordoba developing her voice, as she was surrounded by her parents’ music and exposed to live shows early on. "Music was everywhere, it felt like the one thing that could bring a very polarized country together. There are also so many different influences and sounds blending together here," she explains.

North Star, doesn't see Cordoba straying away from the foundations that she's built over the previous years, but she sees it as a continuation of her Spanish music, which, "for the last couple of years has helped me make sense of the uncertainty that comes with growing”, she comments. “As I started releasing music, I experimented with different sounds and pulled from different genres I love to figure out what I wanted my music to sound like. North Star feels like my first collection of songs that is grounded in a specific sound — a product of those years of searching. It also encapsulates the last two years of my life, in which I finally made peace with the beauty of not knowing.”
