Sofia and the Antoinettes shares “Eden” and announces first of a two-part release
London alt-pop one-to-watch Sofia and the Antoinettes has shared new single “Eden” and announced Existential in High Heels Part 1, the first half of a two-part release, out on 20 November.
“Eden” is the first track from the four-song release, written by Sofia and produced by Manuka (the duo of William Brown and Conor Dickinson, best known for their work with Lola Young). Sofia said the song began as a poem and a short story, written about the first day she spent with someone whose presence changed her. “There is something terribly human about mistaking love for salvation, and someone else’s love for proof that you belong on Earth,” she said.
She added that the song’s ultimate message is that “maybe the saddest part about losing someone you thought you couldn’t live without is discovering that you can.”
Existential in High Heels Part 1 follows this year’s Leaving The House Is A Performance, her second EP. Last month, Sofia appeared on Gotts Street Park’s EP on “Shape Of America” alongside Matt Maltese. Over the past year she has performed at SXSW, supported Lola Young at the London Palladium and LA’s Orpheum Theatre, sold out a headline show at London’s Hoxton Hall, and played All Points East alongside Lorde, Zara Larsson, and PinkPantheress.
In November, Sofia and the Antoinettes will support Beabadoobee in Copenhagen, Stockholm, and Oslo. Next spring, they will support Lola Young across North America, including shows at Radio City Music Hall in New York on 12 April and the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles on 4 May.
Sofia and the Antoinettes built a following with the debut EP Women Who Love Too Much, named after Robin Norwood’s 1985 book. An accompanying residency at Bar Doña in Stoke Newington gave each night a theme: Women Who Cry Too Much, Women Who Smoke Too Much, and Women Who Think Too Much. Now based in East London, Sofia cites Lola Young, Leonard Cohen, Lana Del Rey, Jeff Buckley, and Sylvia Plath among her influences.
