soccer Committee — the solo project of Dutch artist Mariska Baars — and Scottish artist Fergus Jones have announced their first album, belongs, and shared their debut track "The Heavens Are High".
As the duo's first collaboration, belongs, sees Baars and Jones create moments of what is described as "hyperreal minimalism", with "The Heavens Are High" landing as the first preview of the work. The track was initially composed by Baars, with Jones arranging and overdubbing alongside musicians Diego Herrera and Vincent Yuen Ruiz.
"This is a song about longing, being drawn to higher spheres, kind of fluctuating in between earth and heaven," the pair say.
belongs arrives after years of Baars combining ambient and folk across her releases, and collaborating with artists such as Peter Broderick. Now based in Copenhagen,Jones has worked with Huerco S., Adrian Utley, James K, Koreless and Charles Hayward, and is the founder of record label and events series FELT. As the duo combine their musical backgrounds on belongs, the collection of songs is said to express the power of "brevity and connection" between the artists.
