Smashing Pumpkins share new song from forthcoming Hunger Games film
Smashing Pumpkins have released "Black Stars", a new song they contributed to the soundtrack for The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping. The band reunited with legendary producer Butch Vig for the first time since Siamese Dream.
The band's reunion with Vig is their first collaboration since Siamese Dream, their 1993 album. Vig is also known for producing for Sonic Youth, Green Day, and Nirvana.
While working on a solo album, Corgan was invited to contribute an original song to The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping. He looped in Vig to help select the song that best fit the Hunger Games world. They tracked the song primarily at Chaplin Studios in Los Angeles before heading back to Chicago for additional touches.
The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping (The Album) is executive produced by Grammy-winning producer Dave Cobb (Brandi Carlile, John Prine) and brings together 29 artists who wrote music specifically for the world of Panem, including "Draw You Out" by Noah Kahan.
The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping opens in cinemas on 20 November 2026 and stars Mckenna Grace, Ralph Fiennes, Jesse Plemons, Glenn Close, Kieran Culkin, Elle Fanning, and Maya Hawke.
The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping (The Album) is released on 13 November via MCA
