Skullcrusher confronts life with new single, "March"
Skullcrusher has shared "March" as the second single and opening track taken from her forthcoming new album, And Your Song is Like a Circle.
“March is like a confession,” shares Helen Ballentine, “It felt like surrendering myself to the things I’ve lost, the things I don’t understand, the confrontation of life and responsibility. While I reflect on things, familiar situations take different forms. I make a friend cry as I play them my song, I make them cry because I said something hurtful. There is beauty and terror in the unknown.”
While recording, Ballentine experimented with new ways of capturing her voice, such as singing with contact microphones attached to her throat, "creating these really scary sounds." Throughout the record, the line between human and machine blurs. "The voice is my favourite instrument because everybody has it," she adds. "It’s related to so many different kinds of sounds: crying, screaming, laughing. And it’s ephemeral. It’s going to eventually die."
And Your Song is Like a Circle, is due for release on 17 October via her new label home Dirty Hit.
