Siv Jakobsen readies fourth album Scandinavian Dread

23 October 2026, 14:00 | Written by Hayden Merrick

Norwegian indie-folk artist Siv Jakobsen has announced a new studio album, Scandinavian Dread, due 12 March 2027. The single "On You", featuring fellow Oslo songwriter Marit Larsen, is out now.

"On You" was co-written with Larsen, Jakobsen's longtime friend and collaborator. The single celebrates the feeling of effortless love in contrast to a relationship that felt like the opposite. Jakobsen said the song is “an ode to gratitude and pure joy”, and that having Larsen on the recording “felt both natural and obvious”. Larsen said the song “reveals a side of Siv that’s usually reserved for those of us in her innermost circle.”

After shelving an initial version of the album that she started writing in late 2023, after her previous album Gardening came out, Jakobsen returned to the demos in the autumn of 2025, rewriting as well as ingratiating herself in the production process more than in the past. “I’ve never really dared to call myself a co-producer, but with this album I know that I definitely can,” she said.

Recorded at Studio Arcadia, a loft in Oslo, Scandinavian Dread features co-writes with Benjamin Francis Leftwich and Peter Sandberg, brass instrumentation and horn arrangements by Marcus Hamblett, and production shared between Jakobsen, Marit Othilie Thorvik, and Gardening producers Hans Olav Settem and Simen Mitlid.
