Sigur Rós to launch immersive listening experience at Oxford University

16 June 2026, 12:28 | Written by Kayla Sandiford

Icelandic post-rock outfit Sigur Rós have announced ÁRA, a multi-sensory experience to be held at The Schwarzman Centre in Oxford between 26 June and 19 July 2026.

ÁRA was developed in collaboration with spatial audio specialists Loss><Gain (David Sheppard and John Best) and Professor Morten Kringelbach and Dr Finn Moore Gerety from Oxford University, who are studying the transformative effects of deep listening on human thought and experience. Sigur Rós are set to lead a journey of immersive, deep listening through live recordings from the band’s orchestral world tour in a custom spatial-audio environment, with lighting design by Matt Daw and ambient scents from Jónsi’s perfume brand, Fischersund.

ÁRA sees Professor Morten Kringelbach, Professor of Neuroscience at Oxford University and Director of the Centre for Eudaimonia and Human Flourishing at Linacre College, with Dr Finn Moore Gerety at the Faculty of Asian and Middle Eastern Studies come together with the creative team to explore how these experiences can take audiences to transformative states, and whether they have a long-term impact on wellbeing.

Tickets for ÁRA are on sale now. For more information, visit schwarzmancentre.ox.ac.uk
