Shearwater unveil details of upcoming album, The New World

12 May 2026, 14:41 | Written by Kayla Sandiford

Texas-born indie rock band Shearwater have announced their new album, The New World, and shared lead singles "Daydream Unbeliever" and "More and More".

The New World follows the band's 2022 album The Great Awakening, and sees Jonathan Meiburg, Emily Lee, and Dan Duszynski come together once more to expand their sound across nine songs.

"Daydream Unbeliever" and "More and More" are the first previews of the album, of which Meiburg explains, “If you’re like us, you wake up feeling like the world’s on fire, and hoping you could reckon with it if you knew where to begin. ‘Daydream Unbeliever’ and ‘More and More’ come from this uneasy place. If they help you feel a little less insane, welcome home.”

The New World also sees Shearwater step away from releasing music under Sub Pop and Matador, like their previous records, instead choosing to crowdfund, produce, and release the album themselves with Secretly Distribution.

The album was recorded in London, Berlin, New York, and the band’s Texas headquarters, and features a range of instrumental contributions from Shahzad Ismaily, saxophonist and clarinettist Doug Wieselman, qanunist Farouz Zriek, guitarist Leo Abrahams, ngonist Mamadou Kouyate, percussionists Mahamadou Tounkara and Moctar Kouyate (of Malian group Ngoni Ba), and the unclassifiable drummer Thor Harris.
