Shame announce they are taking a little break

28 August 2026, 15:00 | Written by Hayden Merrick

Having concluded touring in support of their fourth album Cutthroat, the South London post-punk band Shame have announced a temporary hiatus.

"We’ve decided it’s time to take a little break," they wrote on their Instagram earlier today, before explaining that they almost decided against an announcement of any kind. "However we think we owe it to you as fans to be transparent and let you know what’s going on in our world," the post continued.

It would appear that this is not one of those breakups delivered under the guise of the dreaded indefinite hiatus. The post mentions the possibility of more music in the future. "We will be back badder and better than ever to deliver you all the fifth shame record of your dreams."

The beloved Windmill-associated band formed back in 2014 and have released four albums since then, all on Dead Oceans. Cutthroat was released in September last year and went to number 8 on the UK Independent Albums Chart. They have played over 100 a shows since then.
