Selena Gomez on her music career: "I never really intended on being a singer full-time"

Reflecting on her music career, Gomez owes the "machine" that is Disney Channel for turning her into a pop star. "“They know how to package someone and make it a whole triple threat thing," she explained before adding that the path she went down wasn't the one that she planned out.

“I wanted to be an actress, I never really intended on being a singer full-time but apparently that hobby turned into something else,” she added. “I don’t think I’m the best singer but I do know how to tell stories and I love being able to make songs.”

Whilst she had fun with music and touring, doing that alongside starring in Wizards of Waverly Place took its toll. “I went to a mental institute and canceled one of my tours,” she says. “It just got to me because I love working and it distracts me from bad things.”

Now, Gomez is in a place where she "would like to find something to just settle on", following three albums – Stars Dance (2013), Revival (2015), and 2020's Rare – and acting roles such as Spring Breakers, Getaway, Hotel Transylvania 2, as well as her current role as Mabel in Only Murders in the Building, which she's acted in since 2021.

"I do feel like I have one more album in me, but I would probably choose acting," she continued. "I am going to want to chill because I’m tired.”
