Scottish alt-folk band Curiosity Shop announce debut EP, Bound For The Sky

On Bound For The Sky, the Edinburgh-based band — formed in 2024 by songwriters Ruairidh Wallace and Sonny Scott, drummer Duncan Biggar, bassist Louis Taige, and multi-instrumentalist Yann McAuley — traces the journey of a group of wanderers finding their way together. "Wandering Arrow" is the second preview of the five-track collection of songs, following previous single "Crows".

Speaking about the song, Wallace says: “When writing 'Wandering Arrow', I wasn't in a very focused place. I was drinking all the time, a lot of things were up in the air but I was still adamant that I would become a real musician, though I wasn't really finishing many songs. 'Wandering Arrow' was one I finished. The first verses are an ode to the journey, its ups and downs, doing what you want, and not losing hope whilst simultaneously walking directly into the wind (words I needed at the time). The lyrics were about me, someone yet to find their feet but somehow always landing on them.”

The EP was recorded with producer Kasper Sandstrøm (Divorce, Do Nothing) and mastered by Felix Davis (Cameron Winter, Geese, Westside Cowboy). “These songs represent various moments in the period between Ruairidh and I meeting in school, journeying to the city to study music, and finding Yann, Duncan and Louis on the other side," Scott says of the collection of songs. "Much of this time has been a time spent wandering, but now, more so than ever, I feel we have an understanding of where we are going.”

“Musically it’s like a glimpse into the past, merged with our influences today," Wallace adds. "We all listen to and love music from before our time, and I think in the world we live in currently it’s a welcome glimpse.”

The band have also announced their debut headline tour, with eight shows across Ireland and the UK in September and November — which includes a sold-out London date at Folklore.
