Sacred Bones to celebrate 50 years of Mort Garson’s Mother Earth’s Plantasia with eco-friendly reissue

14 July 2026, 15:18 | Written by Kayla Sandiford

Sacred Bones has announced the first-ever authorised reissue of Mort Garson's 1976 album, Mother Earth's Plantasia, in celebration of its 50th anniversary.

The cult classic album was created by the Canadian composer as "warm earth music for plants…and the people that love them" and was one of the first records to use a Moog synthesiser. It was originally sold with the purchase of a house plant from Mother Earth on Melrose Avenue in Los Angeles, or with a Simmons mattress from Sears.

Now, fifty years later, the anniversary edition will be pressed on 100% recycled eco-green vinyl with packaging printed on recycled paper. It includes the original Mother Earth's Indoor Plant Care Booklet and a digital download presented on a real seed-paper card.

Coinciding with the anniversary, Sacred Bones have also announced two special Plantasia events. The first is set to take place across two days at Garfield Park Conservatory in Chicago on 10-11 September, with a line-up including Helado Negro & Reyna Tropical, james k, Makaya McCraven, Flore Laurentine, and more.

The second event will be hosted at Seed Song Farm in Kingston, New York, on 19-20 September. The weekend will see performances from Gigi Masin, SPELLLING, Mary Lattimore, Green-House, Alabaster DePlume, and more, alongside a range of other activities including botanical arts and crafts, workshops, a curated market, and plant sales.
