Ryuichi Sakamoto previews soundtrack for Netflix anime series Exception
Ryuichi Sakamoto has unveiled a preview of his score for a new Netflix anime series titled Exception that's due out next month.
Exception is a new Netflix anime "space horror sci-fi" series that's set in the "distant future" where "human beings have been forced to leave earth and migrate to another galaxy," and Sakamoto has composed the score for the series, which will be released in full alongside the Netflix release in October.
As a preview, Sakamoto has shared a song titled "oxygen" from the score, as well as the shortened version which will be used as the opening theme for the show.
Sakamoto said, "I wanted to make the main theme a symphonic piece – the kind that has become a staple in science fiction since Star Wars."
"As for the soundtrack as a whole, I worked towards keeping it darkly ambient, wanting it to feel like one piece of music rather than separated by scene," Sakamoto added. "That said, I did include a degree of harsh sounds in the fighting scenes. Overall, I was able to make a soundtrack I like very much."
Ryuichi Sakamoto's full Exception score will arrive on 14 October, the day after the series premieres on Netflix.
