Roomer finds hope in shared moments with reveal of new record Staircase Made of Rope

Marking a shift in the band’s approach, the record moves away from road-tested compositions toward a process defined by improvisation and first-take recordings.

New song "For Yves" is described by the band as “an ode to friendship and the people who carry us through”. Written as a birthday gift, the track finds the trio leaning into themes of shared experience and mutual support: “[It] finds hope in shared moments, loud laughter, and the simple comfort of knowing someone is there”. A Super 8 video accompanies the song.

Released via Munich label Squama, Staircase Made of Rope was built largely within the studio, with songs emerging from extended improvisations. Crucially, much of the original audio captured during initial sessions remains untouched and that instinct toward spontaneity sees tracks bearing the imprint of the spaces in which they were made – a childhood home couch in summer, a concrete stairwell in Munich, bedrooms filled with makeshift recording setups and guitars re-amped through megaphones and old dictaphones. The record was engineered largely by Squama's own Martin Brugger.

The trio – Ronja Schößler, Ludwig Wandinger and Luka Aron – all made a name for themselves in the European folk, electronic and avant-garde scenes before coming together as Roomer. The band themselves have framed the album as a product of this connection as much as songwriting. “We're three best friends spending time together, and Roomer is what fills the awkward silences,” they say.

After their UK debut at the London ICA and appearances on The Great Escape and ESNS, Roomer will tour Europe in the autumn.
