Reclus.É, new band from Daniel P. Carter and Soren Bryce, sign to Rise/BMG and share debut single

A new collaboration between Daniel P. Carter and Tummyache’s Soren Bryce has surfaced under the name Reclus.É, with the pair confirming a deal with Rise/BMG and releasing their first single, “A Muted TV”. The track arrives backed by a cover of Portishead’s “Roads”.

Carter, known as the longtime host of the BBC Radio 1 Rock Show and former guitarist for A and The Lucky Nine, handles guitars, bass and synth, while Bryce leads on vocals and vocal effects. The project takes its name from the French anarchist geographer Élisée Reclus, and the music pulls from a deliberately broad palette. The pair cite Fugazi, the Stone Roses, The Cure, and Bad Brains as touchpoints.

“A Muted TV” was produced by Carter, Bryce and Peter Miles, who also mixed the track. Drums come from Louis Giannamore, and the recording was split between Devon's Middle Farm Studios and The Black Lodge in Leeds. Lyrically, the single turns its attention to the ways technology and wealth warp self-image and social psyche, a theme Carter and Bryce will explore further on the album.

The arrival of “A Muted TV” lands alongside a small run of shows. This week they support A Perfect Circle across two nights at London’s Brixton Academy on 3 and 4 June. Later in the summer they will appear at Outbreak Festival on 27 June and 2000trees Festival on 10 July.

Further details on the debut LP remain under wraps for now, though more is expected to follow before the summer run.
